The Lynnhaven River Now organization works with residents and businesses to familiarize them with sustainability practices and proactive protection of the local waterways. They normally educate city residents on these practices through outreach events (such as a Civic League meeting – again, hopeful…) but due to COVID are taking different approaches. Such is this promotion of the Pearl Home Program.
Becoming a Pearl Home costs nothing. Pearl Homes incorporate sustainable practices in the home, yard, and neighborhood. Good daily habits and decisions make the difference. Whether you have installed a rain barrel, made a pledge to “scoop the poop” or switched to a reusable water bottle and reusable grocery bags, you are helping to bring our waterways back to life.
Interested Residents can fill in a brief application (use link) to qualify for a free Pearl Flag & Pole to recognize their efforts to improve the environmental health of our waterways and community! https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/pearlhome You will be amazed at how easy it can be!
Some neighborhoods are working on Pearl Home Campaigns & becoming Pearl Neighborhoods.
During this time, Parks & Recreation will establish a fundraising team to solicit donations and sponsorships to offset the overall cost of constructing the park. It’s estimated that this could raise about $20 million dollars and include naming rights to park features and/or events in the park.

The final design will include a surface parking lot with 397 publicly available parking spaces. A parking garage was presented as an option, however City Council opted for the surface parking solution to reduce construction costs.

Only on designated roads — Virginia Beach City Council can approve certain streets (posted signs required) for golf cart use, but they must have speed limits of 25 mph or less.
Lago Mar (and a few other areas like Chesapeake Beach, Heron Ridge Estates, Ashville Park) allow golf carts on all residential roads—including streets not otherwise designated—because local ordinances identify them as “exempt neighborhoods”.
Operation is allowed only between sunrise and sunset unless your cart is equipped with headlights, taillights, turn signals, and an S‑emblem. A slow-moving vehicle triangle emblem is legally required on the rear at all times.
You must be at least 16 years old and carry a valid driver's license to operate a golf cart on any public street.
We have reached out to City Officials to determine if the neighborhood can meet the criteria for Golf Cart approval.
